Kent State-- Ranked 3rd Best Fashion School in the Country!

How could I not mention that I am attending the third best fashion school in the country and the 13th best fashion school IN THE WORLD?!

That's right, in January the popular online fashion magazine, Fashionista.com, compared The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising here at Kent State to other design schools, colleges, and universities that offer stellar programs not only in fashion, but also in areas of business, marketing, styling, textiles, and technology programs, and determined Kent State to be third in country and 13th in the world.

According to the website, the list of top schools was generated by speaking to students, employees at the schools, companies who hire graduates, and industry professionals. Tuition costs, demographics, famous alums, and variety in programming were also considered.

I feel honored to have the opportunity to study at such a world-renowned institution in the field of fashion and can not wait to see where graduating from such a school will take me. :)

Here is a list of the top fashion schools, as compiled by Fashionista.com:

1) Central St. Martins (London, England)
2) Parsons, The New York School for Design (New York, United States)
3) Bunka Fashion College (Tokyo, Japan)
4) Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp, Belgium)
5) Fashion Institute of Technology (New York, United States)
6) Ecole de la Chambre Syndicate (Paris, France)

Little Black Dress

It's been awhile since I've posted-- and neglecting my blog makes me feel guilty.  Luckily I experienced something beyond exciting this past week in The Fashion School here at Kent, and I can't wait to share it with you. :)

Last Wednesday, the 23rd, The Fashion School put on a fashion show called The Little Black Dress Sophomore Walk Off, which showcased the immense talent present in the school.  I am enrolled in a two-credit hour class that details the behind-the-scenes production of a fashion show, and as a member of the class I was able to witness first-hand the hardwork that went into the show.  It was so interesting to see everyone's dedicated planning evolve into a smooth production.

I also had the amazing opportunity to model in the show.  It was so much fun, and I am hoping the designers who created the two garments I wore in the show were satisfied with my performance on the runway.

Seeing as how the designers were all just sophomores, I was blown away by the creativity and edge of all the designs.  You wouldn't have to ask me twice to take home the two designs I wore...They honestly were stunning pieces of art, and they definitely put a modern spin on the classic black dress.

All of the profit garnered from the show will go toward producing The Fashion School's Annual Fashion Show: The Time is Now, which is to be held at the end of April.  Stay tuned!

Here is a backstage photo of some of the models in the Walk Off, wearing the designs of talented sophomore design students.  I am pictured second from right.

Here I am pictured far left, standing next to two lovely models and wearing the second design I modeled on the runway.
