Goodwill Personal Styling Competition

Last Friday, March 4th, was the second annual Goodwill Personal Styling Competition at Kent State University.  I've participated in the competition both years, and I absolutely love how it enables students to showcase their creativity!

The competition is open to Fashion Merchandising majors only, and it allows them to express their originality and styling expertise.  Participants in the competition style looks using clothing and accessories solely from the Goodwill, Salvation Army, or discount outlets.  Shoes are an exception, and the only tailoring permitted is hemming skirt and pant lengths, etc.  Participants must provide their receipts to prove that all their garments were purchased at the Goodwill.  It cost $5 for every look contestants decided to submit, and Fashion Design students were selected to serve as the panel of judges.

Since last year was the first year of the competition, I had no idea what to expect.  I was ecstatic to walk away with second place, and the experience made me extremely excited for this year's competition.

This year there were so many fashion-forward, chic looks presented in the competition, which is why I am so excited to have WON!  As the first place winner, I was awarded a $50 Visa gift card.  The second and third place winners were awarded $25 Visa gift cards, and we were all given the opportunity to present our looks in a professional photo shoot by Mindy Sue Photography in April!  Hopefully after the shoot I can post some of the photos to my blog!

I am pictured below modeling the look I styled that won the competition.  Every component of the look, apart from the shoes, was purchased at either the Goodwill in Kent or the Village Discount Outlet in Cuyahoga Falls.

Pictured below are two fabulous models wearing the other two outfits I submitted.  Again, all garments were gathered from the Goodwill or VDO (even his shoes!).

Below is a picture of all the winners!
